Version: (using KDE KDE 4.0.0) Installed from: Compiled From Sources OS: Linux When trying to change the wallpaper (background image) Plasma consistently crashes, Plasma also crashed a couple times when i was using the search function. When i log in (after the first incidence) the background shows only white.I try to change it and by right clicking and selecting the configure desktop. When i do that the dialog box pops up for a half a second then every thing goes to a light gray screen and then every thing pops back up but instead of the white background and and dialog box, theres a light grey background and an error from the crash handler (I'll explain the error message in a second) (the kicker remains, though it isn't present when the screen go all grey) i close the error message and proceed to change the background again. this time the dialog pops up for a half a second and the screen go to all light grey, this time nothing pops back up, it donut have a kicker anymore, and the right click functionality is gone. I can' do anything from here but ctrl-alt-backspace. So i do that and I go back to the log in screen. is it possible to enable debug symbols in your build so we get a more informational backtrace? thanks ... (this may already be fixed in svn, btw)
Thats not possible as the the KDE on my computer was pre-compiled for me so I don't have the specific build, It was labeled as KDE 4.0.0 and (I believe) it was a reputable source so i conclude it was just the official release
your distribution should have -dbg or -debug packages that you can optionally install which will give you debug information in your build.
I've enabled some of the debugging symbols, but must not have enable all of the ones I needed (I don't know for sure) But the back trace turned out different so I'm hoping there is some helpful information in there. can we simply forget about this new plasma desktop very confusing where some guys wnat to reinvent icons 20 years after Xerox magnificent work ; we simply cannot have conventional icons everywhere and these animals in tha plasma desktop.
