Description msnkipa 2008-01-13 13:04:37 UTC
Version: 4.0.80 (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: GCC 4.2.3
OS: Linux

When I switch on Desktop effekts, such as shadows I can see only black screen with the mouse. I use X.org 7.3 with intel drivers (GMA965)

this sounds a lot more like a kwin-composite issue. I'm assuming you can't see any windows after this happens - really just blackness and the mouse?

it's possible that you haven't configured xorg correctly. there's a howto somewhere...

whoops, forgot to reassign
Comment 3 msnkipa 2008-01-13 16:07:34 UTC
So I have 3.5.8 works with composite module very well, I have got shadows and other... But when I install 4.0 I "can't see any windows after this happens - really just blackness and the mouse"... What`s wrong I do??

kde3's kwin didn't have any real compositing.

this file might help you: http://websvn.kde.org/*checkout*/trunk/KDE/kdebase/workspace/kwin/COMPOSITE_HOWTO

The control module asks you to confirm turning effects on and disables them again after a timeout otherwise. Please attach the kwin output you get from the time effects are being activated.
