Description Michael Braun 2007-12-29 21:10:06 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.97.0)
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs

I'm using Firefox under KDE 4.0RC2. With activated 3d effects (with nvidia driver) I've get the problem, that everytime I'm in an text field in firefox (e.g. form, search box or address bar) the plasmoids (e.g. clock, panel, kpager) appears and disappears after every character I'm typing in firefox. The problem did not appear if I'm only browsing. Has someone else seen this effect?

You can see how my plasma desktop looks like when I'm in an text field in
firefox.

We could do with this being tested with the latest KDE and the latest nVidia binaries (there's a lot of fixes in the latest versions for bugs that were causing issues with Plasma).

yes, please do test with latest nvidia. it's fixed all the argb problems related to the driver i had with it, so it would be good to know if this problem also goes away for the reporter.

I can confirm glitches (see the attached image).
I'm on a nvidia 7600 gs, with 169.07 drivers, on archlinux. Running this morning kde 4.0 branch snapshot (compiled via kdesvnbuild).
The problem happens only on the desktop where firefox is opened (or actually shown). Whe you type on the location bar or into a textarea in a html page, the panel starts at first to redraw the pager at every key press. If you mouse hover on the windows titles the corresponding panel part disappear or flashes.

Look at left bottom corner

It was hard to take this screenshot. It only shows the leftbottom corner, but
the problem happens on all the panel.

I had the same bug when scrolling KTorrent (2.2.4) peer list: in detail the pager appeared and disappeared, showing the background.
Sorry but I don't know how to reproduce this...

I'm typing this in Firefox right now with KDE 4.0.0 and the latest nvidia binary drivers for a Geforce 4 MX 440. I'm not getting the bug.

By the way, how are you guys getting Firefox to use the Oxygen theme? All of my GTK apps look like ass in KDE 4 D:
Comment 8 Aaron J. Seigo 2008-01-10 22:23:46 UTC
yes, this is a x.org / x.org driver related bug. the near future is going to suck as we're the first mainstream user app outside of window managers to seriously use this stuff. =/
Comment 9 Margus Eha 2008-01-11 08:02:17 UTC
I know "little out of topic" but is there any signs that Nvidia will
fix legacy (geforce 4 and older cards) drivers on the near future or
will it be fixed in xorg level all together ?

I just noticed this bug. I use KDE 4.0 final (Ubuntu packages) and NVIDIA driver 169.07, which I think is the latest. The problem also occured when I switched off Desktop Effects. By the way I use amd64.

Happens here as well, latest nvidia 169.09 from ubuntu. Not only when using firefox, but also when clicking F12 to access yakuake etc.

Happened on 4.0.0 on Kubuntu Gutsy, happens now in Kubuntu Hardy KDE 4.0.1. Effects are enabled.
