Description Benjamin Weber 2007-12-25 19:43:07 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.8)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

(In reference to http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=116334)

1.) If you have a big music collection and you are using Amarok as your favourite music organizing application, you will find most of your files with the integrated search (and your directory structure).
Some files have a wrong filename or are wrong tagged. So as the result you can't find them because one letter differs from the right one in your collection. If you typed in the exact name of an artist and no results are displayed but for a similar spelling of the artist, which is maybe the right one, (differences in one letter or more) a small hint like in the Google search "Did you mean...?" would be helpful. The hint only should be displayed if the number of the tracks of the similar artist (a small difference in the spelling) is bigger than the one of your first search. The hint should be clickable to jump to the results of the similar artist/album etc..
If a lot of similar spellings of your search term are available (and only one or none for your first search), I would suggest a top 10 of similar artists (with the number of tracks of each artist) with the percentage of matching (or maybe the differences are bold printed).
Such a feature is a big help for the user who has no overview about his collection (which does not mean that I have a untidied collection!).
Amarok should get an "intelligence" like Google concerning its search.
In some cases you don't know the exact spelling of a title/artist/album etc., with such a function it would be possible to activate (checkbox) the fuzzy search and it would search only for similar spellings.
A more user friendly search would make Amarok more attractive for end users.

2.) Another idea would be a small suggesting feature like "Did you ever listen to ...?".
Maybe a connection to last.fm or a feature which Amarok provides would make that possible.
If you listened a whole collection and one track has a counter with 0, Amarok could suggest the title as a link.
But not only that should be the basis of this feature, a BPM analysis (would run in the background in systems which are not busy at the moment, maybe with a function which recognizes this period of the low cpu (+hdd) usage) bring similar titles you never (or a few times) listened to to light.

All my suggestions are only ideas. Please comment on my ideas. Thank you and merry christmas.

Regards,

Benny

You are meant to add your thoughts about a bug report as a comment to the old one, not file a new report. Also, brevity is a virtue.

Ok, you are right to continue the old one. And ok, the virtue of brevity arrived :). But should I add the whole content to the old one now?

Well if you feel that you have something to add which is not already there, of course you can add it. But please keep in mind that it should be short, and that you shouldn't say what has already been said
