Description Maciej Pilichowski 2007-12-23 09:40:46 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.97.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I admit, at first sight toolboxes look cool. But:
a) when moving mouse it is too much "animations"
b) you cannot use keyboard to selected feature (in context menu you can) -- think: handicapped people
c) context menu does not go off when you move your mouse too much -- think: handicapped people
d) they clutter the general view of the desktop
e) they behave like an advertisement not a software feature (user is not in control)
f) it is too easy to interfere with other content shown on desktop in toolbox place

Right-mouse clicking should give a context-menu for all plasmoids in current subversion. Please file an individual bug for each plasmoid that fails at this after you next get updated packages for your system.

Alternate methods to resize and rotate would be needed to get rid of the applet handle altogether, at the moment.

as for keyboard accessibility: yes, it does suck right now. that's a separate issue. I can't even *get* a context menu for widgets unless I use the mouse.

Jason, thanks for help, indeed I was using the "wrong" applet for testing.

However my point is to be able to switch off the applet handles.
Comment 4 Aaron J. Seigo 2007-12-27 15:24:08 UTC
you can switch them off with lock applets; i won't provide a way to turn them off while retaining configurability, however (it's one of those "tiny config for some tweak that really hardly mattesr in the end").

there already is a standard context menu facility, but applets can get in the way of that (one reason handles are required).

so. yeah, as soon as we provided a way to turn off handles the next report would be "make context menus work with every applet" which isn't guaranteeable.

a) I was told it should be guaranteed
b) why not?

Lock applets if quite different feature. What about all those issues I pointed out? And more important where handicapped people should go? KDE is no more for them?

Applets can override the contextmenu (RMB) actions, like, for example the notes applet does.
Comment 7 Maciej Pilichowski 2007-12-27 15:57:06 UTC
I meant applet's context menu, so when you click RMB on applet A you should see applet A context menu. Always.
