Description madgenius 2007-12-21 15:30:14 UTC
Version: 1.9.6(enterprise 20070904,708012) (using KDE KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

Kmail has stopped downloading email from Gmail.

I configured Kmail to use pop3 following the instructions given here(http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13287) and things were fine for the last few months. Over the last two days, it has stopped downloading email.

I get a message in the status bar saying 'X new messages', but none of the messages are in the Inbox.

Downloading of messages using other clients (Evolution & Thunderbird) does not give me any problem.

Sending email via SMTP is fine.

This is my first bug report, so please excuse me if I have missed anything.

Thanks

Check these things:
- Do you have enough space left and the correct permissions to store the mail?
- Are you using filters? If so, try disabling them.
- At last, try setting up KMail with a test user (so that KMail uses a new
config) and check if it works with the test user.

Hi Thomas,

I had bogofilter set-up to catch spam, and that seemed to be the problem. I disabled it, and the problem is solved.

Should I now mark this bug as 'resolved'?

Thanks very much,
Avinash

I guess bogofilter misqualified messages as spam then.

>Should I now mark this bug as 'resolved'?
I'll do that.

Hello:

I'm not a native English speaker so apollogize my writing.

I have a similar problem. Kmail does not download any of my emails, even I know
I have them in my account (gmail). There is no a conffiguration problem (I have the account in thunderbird and it does work with no problems).

I installed kubuntu 7.10 just a few months ago, and kmail has never functioned. It only send emails. I have never created any filter... I tried with my job account but either, (so it is not a gmail problem).

I have reinstalled the program twice and the problem persist. I launched from the konsole and kmail opens but with a problem notification in the konsole. I do not if this text is necessary for you, please tell me.

Thank you for any help,

That seems to be a GMail-specific problem. Once you have downloaded a mail from GMail, it is internaly marked as downloaded by GMail, and can never be downloaded again.
I have KMail with GMail and it works fine.

Sorry, but I think I couldn't explain my problem.

I have configured both gmail and my job accounts in kmail and no of them receive emails. My job account is not a gmail one, it has a private server.

In addition I configured gmail in thunderbird and it works with no problem.

When I tried kmail I haven't previously configured gmail in any other client (such Thunderbird), so I'm sure that the account had many e-mails ready to be downloaded but kmail did not.

Before writing the bug, I tried to make sure that it was a kmail problem, such it seems to be...

Thank you,
