Version: (using KDE Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources OS: Linux KWin windows rendering is terribly slow with opengl/nvidia on my box. My hw is a GEForce 7600 w/nvidia proprietary drivers. OpenGL runs normally very good (KDE 3.5+compiz, for example), but under KDE4 some operations are abnormally slow. By "abnormally" I mean that I can accept a certain degree of slowness due to the state of the software (unifinished), but some rendering is definitely too slow, so much to appear a bug to me. The most evident example is the "Add Widget" list: resizing THIS window can take even 2 second, with transitional frames in the middle, flickering and transparent zones in the way. No crash reports of course, and the window is actually redrawn in the end, but probably there's something goin on. Available to give any further information.

I have the exact same issue, particularly I have the same behavior as the screen shot attached. I'm using the an nvidia 7900 with the proprietary drivers. Opensuse 10.3. Kde RC2. I'm sure there is more information that i can provide i just don't know where i would look.
The resizing is awfully slow even without compositing.
Using 3.97.1 release 6.5 from the opensuse build-service this is still very valid. Generally resizing is slow, but the add widgets dialog is awful.
Resizing "Configure Desktop", "System Activity" and any of the applet configuration dialogs is very slow too. Disabling ARGB visuals in plasma at the source level brings everything up to normal speed, so this looks like yet another ARGB visuals issue.
not using argb vis is not an option, and plasma can't fix the shit that x.org developers evidently can't get figure out.
i have the same issue with nvidia 9600 GT (hp dv7) (KDE 4.1.86 (KDE 4.1.86 (KDE 4.2 >= 20081221)), Debian packages) Debian Sid (updated) Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.26-1-amd64
