Version: (using KDE KDE 3.96.0) Installed from: Unspecified Linux OS: Linux *) Most of the time I've got about 30 to 40 windows/applications open, therefor I noticed that: 1) taskbar grouping is missing in plasma 2) a two lined taskbar possibility (as in kde3) would be nice *) The animation if a new window is being opened takes ages to settle down
Q: how can you tell when someone finds plasma? A: they ask about (or file) the same 4-5 not-yet-implemented features as everyone else that's come before them. Q: how often to people find plasma? A: several times a day. thanks for the bug reports, but all of these reports are (well) known issues. at this point in plasma development, can i suggest just sending me an email with the list of things all at once and i can just answer it there easily? less time for both of us. most are these items are being actively discussed by the developers on the mailing list or irc (and by discussed i mean "coming up with patches") as we're working on solutions for them.
Marking as a wish because plasma is new software rather than a kde4 port of kicker & friends.
Still no grouping or multiple rows in KDE 4.1. That makes Taskmanager pretty much unusable with a lot of windows open. All in all there is http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152700 (this one: grouping) http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=162568 (both grouping and multiple rows) http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=163935 (multiple rows) It seems to me that #162568 depends on the other two (is it possible to set a depends-on relationship between bugs with this bugzilla?)

Q: How can you tell when something is going wrong in a software project? A: Users try to help by submitting bug reports but get flamed for it. This bug has been reported in November 2007. Almost one (1) year later: - the issue is still not resolved - there is no indication in Bugzilla that it is even being worked at - the bug report is still set to "NEW" So how are users supposed to know if it's a "known issue"? What should be: - the issue should long be resolved, IMO this is an important feature - the bug 152700 should have been handled (assigned, closed or whatever)
As mentioned in a similar bug (#163935) part of the problem might be solvable by integrating elements of this Plasmoid (replacement for widget-taskbar): http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/multirows+task+manager+by+8siem?content=83177 It provides mutliple rows. Maybe the author already started something about grouping as well, the readme mentions something along those lines.
Thanks for that link. Currently, grouping is not implemented in that alternative taskbar. IMHO, the KDE team should ASAP clarify whether, when and how they plan to implement grouping. The very vague plans mentioned in the task applet subdirectory "future/GROUPING" are outdated and give no clue about when this feature will come, if at all. Developers like the person who wrote/modified that alternative taskbar should have this kind of information in order to decide what to implement themselves and what to wait for.
Grouping has finally been implemented (see latest SVN). Thanks to the KDE devs and sorry for being that impatient! ;-)
Are the compositing-based taskbar thumbnails going to be supported for groups?
@Todd: eventually; right now we don't show thumbnails for all windows in the group, just for non-grouped items.
(In reply to comment #8) > Grouping has finally been implemented (see latest SVN). Thanks to the KDE devs > and sorry for being that impatient! ;-) > In which version is this implemented? I just installed the recent opensuse 11.1 with kde 4.1 and it does not seem to be there!
