Description Mikolaj Machowski 2007-11-18 21:47:51 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
OS: Linux

Currently in digiKam user see in Metadata menu with 8 options:

Edit IPTC
Remove IPTC
Import IPTC
Edit EXIF
Remove EXIF
Import EXIF
Edit Captions
Remove Captions

In near future there will be additional 3 entries about XMP. This is confusing and in many cases unnecessary. It would be great if in Metadata would be something like:

Edit
Remove
Import
Advanced >

In first three entries user would got smart form which would try to synchronize entries in all systems of metadata. In Advanced sub-menu will be entries split into separate systems.

I like the idea here - having synchronised entry for the different metadata types. Obviously one problem will be that the different standards (IPTC/EXIF/XMP) support different field lengths, character types etc etc....

Presumably if you activated and used this feature, you would be restricted to the lowest common denominator?

Absolutely. This is why is will never fix it.
