Description Skippy le Grand Gourou 2007-10-31 19:14:50 UTC
Version: 0.12.3 (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

Kopete is not able to send/receive messages while connecting behind a router with "all but port 80" closed, at least with msn (and jabber?) protocol(s). Nor do gaim or aMSN, but sim-im (and also WLM...) is ok.

The connection works, but sending/reception of messages fail with a "connection closed" message (while the connection isn't actually closed).

The issue could be because of too long http polling (if implemented) time interval. It might be a good idea to add the possibility to customize this interval.

PS: Sorry, no debug output for now, maybe later (when I have acces to that computer).

PPS: The bug #123726 might be related, at least the latest entries, but as it is mentioned that gaim and amsn work properly I think it is better to open a new report, since the protocol may have changed...

Just confirming this bug.

Using HTTP for MSN/Kopete worked a few months ago (although with frequent disconnections as mentioned in other bug reports), but stopped working after some changes at the MSN-servers.

This was already fixed for Pidgin (so I'm now using Pidgin over port 80), but not yet for Kopete (which I prefer).

It has been fixed also for amsn, in which case it was due to the last change in MSN protocol more than to a polling issue.

Still present in kopete 4.0.84 from opensuse 11.0 repos. I'm behind a router if that makes any difference.

This bug is old and not solved...

It seems to be solved in amsn by revision 9005 and revision 9054.

Please implement it

Please cc debian bug 493820@bugs.debian.org
Comment 6 Antonio Pisano 2008-10-11 02:10:14 UTC
Bug confirmed... but I found that in some hard to reproduce circumstances messages are delivered... I guess it is something related to the state of the contact, as every person I managed to speak to was "online" (but that doesnt mean that EVERY "online" person was reachable!)
I've heard m$ have changed something in the http protocol sometime ago...
Comment 7 Antonio Pisano 2008-10-11 02:17:42 UTC
My version of kopete is 3.5.10-1 compiled from source from debian unstable repos.

We've completely replaced the current MSN implementation with a new MSN implementation which If you continue to experience this bug after testing the new implementation (which can be gotten from our subversion repository or with the KDE 4.2 Beta 1 release), PLEASE, open a new bug rather than reopening this bug. Thank you for your time and efforting in helping us find and fix problems in Kopete.
