Version: (using KDE KDE 3.94.0) Installed from: I Don't Know OS: I Don't Know The icons for currently running application in the plasma panel as of KDE 4.0 Beta 4 are too large. This makes the icons of non KDE applications look ugly as they are pixelated. Using the standard 16x16 icon should be a good choice.
> plasma panel as of KDE 4.0 Beta 4 are too large this will be configurable via the size of the panel it is on. > the standard 16x16 icon should be a good choice and way too small. apps should get with the times and provide better icons. there is a standard way to do this for any x11 app. since this is the heart of the bug report, i'm closing it with "won't fix" because ... well ... i'm not interested in crippling the taskbar because some apps still think it is 1995 ;)
Large icons are not only bad for those apps. It also wastes lot of taskbar space. It means users can have less apps open without cluttering the panel. This mock up looks really nice. http://www.nuno-icons.com/images/estilo/image2476.png
.. and completely unusable. please do not re-open bugs i've closed. unless you are going to provide a patch for it that actually stands a chance of acceptance. as it happens, we're not going to only load 16px icons. it's time to move the desktop forward, not make things worse just to accommodate historical mistakes.
At least please give a gap between the K-Menu icon and the first application icon. The are too close to each other.
If you want to maintain that visual choice, maybe It would work better at 70% of the present size. On the other side, is there anyway to avoid that big ugly icons as a user?(I prefer to have little icons and two lines of apps, or no icons at all to have those big icons...) well just a visual opinion...
@jorge It is beyond just a visual opinion. It is about utilizing the screen real estate in the best possible way.
The new panel decoration SVG is really cool. Hope it is the default. Somehow I have started liking the large task icons too. A little more space between K-Menu icon and the first task icon would help still.
The blocks (icon and text) of the running apps should be resizable.
That would be a really good idea. But I dunno if Aaron is looking into this bug still. May be u must report this as a separate wish.
