Description Maciej Pilichowski 2007-08-19 09:11:01 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I have two accounts A (default) and B. I get mail to B saying

"If you like this please send a mail also to X@X".

So I click on "X@X", composer starts but it shows A account.

Please keep track of the accounts, and set the B (in that case) as the "from" address when replying.

i have this problem too. Let me redescribe it so its clear. I have two addresses: PremierSullivan@gmail.com, which I use for spam, talking with friends, mailing lists, and some other not important stuff. Then there is ConorWSullivan@gmail.com, which I use for business. This seperation is very important to me.

When I reply to an email, if the email is sent to PremierSullivan, the reply window defaults to ConorWSullivan (since that is my default account). If I don't notice it, and I usually don't, then I send an email with the wrong account. Very often, if someone is used to hearing from me from my PremierSullivan account, they will get confused and stop answering when the see my new account (I'm not kidding).

This issue is important enough to me that I would stop using kmail and use thunderbird instead. It is also important enough to me that I'm going to fix it, but I need someone to tell me which method in either messagecomposer.cpp or some other file is the one I need to modify.

Just reply? This is odd, I cannot recall it happened to me.

Btw. dirty "safety belt", add another account, name it "NULL" for example and set it as default one. This helps (at least me) not sending mails with incorrect account address.

Seems to be a long standing problem (see bug 36182, bug 38065 and possibly others). Those two bugs claim that this has been fixed.

Jonathan, btw. your report is a bug-report, my is a wish-report, those looks maybe the same, but they are not. You are talking about normal reply, me sending new mail to some address included in the mail. I think it is better to open separate report for the bug with reply.

This works for me - you have to have the correct identity set up of course
