Description Jaap Woldringh 2007-07-23 19:13:57 UTC
Version: 1.3.1 (using KDE 3.5.7, Kubuntu (gutsy) 4:3.5.7-1ubuntu12)
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i586) release 2.6.22-8-generic

The Dutch translation shipped with kst in the trial version of the newest Kubuntu, Gutsy, which will be distributed next October is way obsolete. The translators mentioned are the ones who a few years ago tried to translate this program, and some parts of the program are not translated at all. The funny thing is, however, that the translation as is was indeed done by me, several years ago. Anyway, most part of it.
The same applies also to Feisty, the current Kubuntu.

So please be sure you use the newest translation files when you ship programs such as kst.

With regards,

Jaap Woldringh

I have information that this bug is caused by Launchpad, which is used by Ubuntu, and is known for it's regression of translations, and random translations. *If* that is true, that is very bad indeed and should cause the use of Launchpad, which is closed source (!!!!) to be stopped immediately. Translating for (K)Ubuntu is useless if Launchpad destroys this.

Sounds as if this is not a problem with kst but with Launchpad. Id this turns out not to the case please re-open this bug report.

This bug still exists in Ubuntu's latest tribal (5) of Gutsy. Funny thing is that some (the easiest) of my translations are there, but that the previous translators are mentioned in the credits. AND that part of the translations, where my mathematical and physical expertise comes in, are made undone.

FYI this same thing (the omitting of mathematical and physical translations) are omitted in at least one other application (Qalculate!) too, for which a bug report also has been committed, from me and from the author of this application.

Also FYI only, so you get as much information as you may need, my translation for Gcalctool, is not used at all, so the already years old mathematically nonsensical Dutch translation for that program is still used. I am promised that in the next STABLE version of Ubuntu this will be fixed.

So I guess that the Dutch translation team is at the source of this problem, but they don't answer mail.

So I am suspecting the Dutch translation team for Ubuntu, which would be very bad and kill the initiative that Ubuntu is for everyone to use in his/her own language....

But why did you reopen this bug? I fail to see what we can do about it.

Hallo Bram:
Why? Don't you want to be informed?
Don't you mind that KDE translations are tampered with by others?
And maybe I am looking into the wrong direction. I am just supposing, the Ubuntu Dutch translation team does not answer me when I ask them.
Problem is that I am translating for KDE, and that at least one of these translations do not seem to be used as it should.
I have seen lesser bugs reported....
I have stopped translating for Ubuntu, that was once and never again, as a good Dutch saying goes :). Fortunately *KDE* has a very good coordinator for the Dutch translations..

> Why? Don't you want to be informed?

Sure, I have the same feelings as you regarding this issue. But I wonder if an entry in KDE Bugzilla is such a good place to discuss this. After all, you, me and $ASSIGNED will read this. Not really a big audience.

Note that this issue has been discussed on kde-i18n-doc@kde.org before, but without an actual result. Many of the KDE translators think this is a bad situation, but it seems it's hard to solve this problem (they keep believing that 'their' translations are somehow better than upstream translations).

OK. I am satisfied that this is a known problem. Then for me this problem is closed. I saw you were a previous translator some years ago, you are still mentioned as one of the translators :)
Guess I have to inform the SABDFL himself that his great project is threatened by some ....
You know: I love Kubuntu.

OK, then I shall close it again.

I can't remember translating kst though (maybe tiny tiny little fixes), it's a shame my name (and yours of course) gets associated with a crappy incomplete translation.
