Description Roger Farrell 2007-07-14 11:31:03 UTC
Version: 0.9.1 (using KDE 3.5.6, compiled sources)
Compiler: Target: i586-mandriva-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.17-14mdv

When sending images and using the 'Add Image'> 'Select image from album' dialog most images do not show a thumbnail.

The thumbnails are shown in the album view. I have tried 'rebuild all thumbnails' and sync all picture metadata but no improvement.

I have loaded all the 20 kipi plugins and 30 image plugins available with Mandriva 2007.1 from the official repositories.

Cannot find a logic to why some thumbnails shown in the dialog box, but most are not.

I would expect each image to show a thumbnail in the 'select images from album' dialog as it is selected.

Roger,

We have recently talk about this problem with others kipi developpers.

Why digiKam show properlly all thumbs and not plugins ? because digiKam use an advanced kioslave di extract thumbs from pictures. plugins use the standard KDE kioslave witch is very limited.

Note : try to open the folder which contains these pictures into konqueror and you will see the same sad thumbs effect than plugins.

Valerio,

it will be time to improve libkipi to provide a new feature : add way to use thumbs (and cache of course) extracted from kipi host apps.

Note2 : digiKam, Gwenview, and KphotoAlbums use differents way to extract thumbs and cache data...

Hallo Giles & Valerio,

Thank you for your reply.

When I open the folder containing the images in Konqueror thumbnails of all
images are built as I watch.

For a folder with several hundred images building thumbnails takes some time,
but for less images it's instant.

Problem is not reproducible with new Send by Mail tool from digiKam core introduced with digiKam 5.7.0.
