Description Amy Brodzik 2007-07-09 09:23:39 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

When I backspace to erase the message I'm typing, sometimes my font color changes back to black on white.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start typing something.
2. Backspace over the whole thing by holding down the backspace key until your text area is empty.
3. Start typing some more.
4. Backspace again.

If you keep repeating this process, you'll see the bug eventually. It normally only takes 1 or 2 cycles of this to trigger the bug.

This is on my list of things to fix for KDE 4.

Sometimes the color changes to black in the textarea even if I don't use backspace. Eventually some message later it reverts back to my color.
Usually the other properties of the text are still correct, in my case the text is still bold for example.

In the chat window the colors and the other properties are always correct.

with kopete svn trunk r835161 i can second that bug.

When you set the font and color, you can type in that selected font, but if you delete everything you entered, the colors and fonts are the default again.

I am experiencing similar things, but I have a funny color scheme: bold white text on lilac. So, things are somewhat different, and quite interesting:

1) I start with bold black text on lilac
2) then one backspace: white non-bold text on lilac
3) again backspace: white bold text on lilac

Interesting!

PS: MOST applications do not deal correctly with default white text :( Shame, really.

I created a patch for this and other related problems: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=168994
