Description reisenweber 2007-06-28 14:36:00 UTC
Version:           1.9.1 (using KDE 3.5.1 Level "a" , SUSE 10.1)
Compiler:          Target: i586-suse-linux
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.16.27-0.9-default

on shutdown of kmail, it complains the 'resource std.vcf is locked by program ""'.
very tricky to reproduce:
start kontact;
1)create "new mail", leave composer window open (at this moment, when closing Kontact, both windows would be correctly closed);
2)send a mail via komqueror "send URL as mail" (probably the crux this invokes kmail);
3)after mail is sent, close Kontact (now the composer window stays alive and kmail shows icon in systray, see difference to 1) );
4) via icon context close kmail
-> resource locked, can not write, etc (4 requesters)

all my contacts vanished 3 times this year. 2 times could recover them from a std.vcf_<n> file.
Guess this is related to this resource-lock error in combination with reboot

have two stale locks size 0
0  5. Jun 21.59 _home_jr_.kde_share_apps_kabc_std.vcf.lock
0  5. Jun 21.59 _home_jr_.kde_share_apps_kabc_std.vcfnPZa7Aly
(plus a few older ones)

probably the above mentioned tricky procedure is nonsense: simple "new contact" fails too - same error-msg.

So modify the bug report to
"there are stale locks. Why - and how to know & get rid of them as a normal user?"

(should i "RESOLVE" ?)

I think you describe the same issue as in bug 137515.
KMail's composer uses the addressbook, so it is affected by the lock problem as well I guess.

If you think this is the same as in bug 137515 as well, please close this bug report and add your comments to that one.

closed. duplicate/related to bug 137515
