Description alancio 2007-05-17 17:58:53 UTC
Version: 0.12.4 (using KDE KDE 3.5.6)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
Compiler: gcc 4.x
OS: Linux

I have been using kopete for some time now, and I have noticed several annoying bugs:

1. In the webcam window, the "Close" button is initially focused, and sometimes I activate it by mistake. That is because the webcam window takes some time to appear, so I continue chatting, and when the window finally shows up, I accidently activate the Close button. This sounds a bit silly, but it has happened too many times.

2. I have a Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000, (pwc driver). Every time I open kopete, the first time I try to use it, it doesn't work (it shows a black/blue screen), but the second time and the following ones it does work. So when I want to use the webcam, I have to first open the preferences, so that kopete tries to display the webcam's image (and it can't), and then try again and it will work.

3. I don't want to be notified when my contacts come online, yet there is no way to disable that behavior. I already disabled the "Show bubble" option, but it continues to show up.

4. On my laptop kopete takes forever to start (like 2 minutes), and when it does, it appears to have forgotten my sabed settings. I thought this was a corrupt configuration, so I tried deleting kopete's configuration, but it happened again. Oddly, on my desktop this has never happened.

5. After a while of chatting, sometimes kopete will not show up icons, will forget its keyboard shortcuts, and sometimes the conversations show up like invalid html, like when you have nested tables without closing (one inside the other). If I restart kopete, it gets fixed. This never happens while I have a chat window opened, it only happens after I close one, and then after a while open it again. I group my chat windows by source account, and it will only affect one account at the time.

6. It would be better if the log file format would be one file per conversation and not one per month, and even better if they were plain textfiles (like gaim). The problem is I can't merge conversation logs from different computers easily, while I do this with gaim with something like this: tar -cf - .gaim/logs | ssh host tar xf -

Sorry to post so different bugs in just one report, but I don't have time to go through the whole process for every bug.

Sorry, but we have even less time than you do. If you cannot take the time to file each bug as a separate report, then we definately don't have the time to fix it. Fortunately, a few of your bugs are duplicated elsewhere, so you might still see fixes for them.

Ok, maybe you can ignore the rest and just fix bug n# 3, as it is one of the most annoying and at the same time the most easy to fix. (Maybe I haven't located the option).

I have already found bug reports about the inconvenience of the implemented chat history, so I will just follow them.

Keep in mind that filing each bug means we have to go through several screens, typing all that text, and then having them wiped out in a second is too discouraging.

for #3 use (in the menu bar) "settings" -> "configure notification".

also, note that while it might seem like a hassle for you to file several bug reports, filing one report makes everything much harder for the developers, which are the ones doing the work already anyways. searching for bugs may not turn up a report containing several issues, especially not with a title like this, and other issues.
never the less, thanks for providing feedback and caring about kopete
