When someone wants your permission for adding you to his/her list of contacts, only the other user's nickname appears. It would be very helpful to also display the e-mail, JID, passport ID, or any other kind of information available, so as to try to guess who it may be. As an example, I friend added me today and the dialog said: "R. wants to add you to his contact list" (something like that, I use the spanish translation). If it said instead something like: "R. (robert@hisserver.com) wants to...", I would have recognised him instantly.
