Description Maciej Pilichowski 2007-04-17 19:57:19 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.6)

When I open a file and close it, and then quit kate -- kate does not count it as a recent file. Very annoying since I have to manually search for it again, if I have to make change in the text.

I have to open a file, and quit kate, then run it again, then I can close the file -- it is now counted as "recent".

Besides annoyance it is not well established "standard" what is considered to be "recent document" in many text editors (I am not saying they are right, because they are many, but because such feature works well, and proved its concept for years).

Same behavior at Kate-4.0.0 x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc-4.1.1.

i have the same problem of files i've recently edited not showing in the recent files section.

what about having the recent files section as a side-tab like the filesystem browser and documents tab? it would be great if it had a filter-as-you-type as well, like Klipper does.

That works for me in KDE 4 /trunk, rev 845250

open file, close it, close kate, restart kate, is there...

I didn't notice this in kate prior to kde 4.0.

But now in kde 4.0 to kde 4.1.1, I've encountered this annoying bug (misleading name). I never "close" files within kate. I close kate when I no longer need my files. Why should I close 10 individual files when I can just close the whole application? Then the recent opened files are not there.

You may call the entry "open recently closed files" ;)

This works fine for me in trunk/. That is after opening a file the file directly shows up in the open recent files menu and if I just quit kate and restart it the file is still there in the menu.

Note though that the open-recent list as well as the currently opened document list are part of your session. So if you don't save your session on close, or don't reload it when starting kate its quite normal that the list is emtpy. See Configure Kate->Sessions for the options.
