>When opened KMail has lines in it's status bars. Can you attach a screenshot of that? Although I think these lines are not the fault of KMail, see below. >Then the whole screen changes to multicolored vertical lines, the computer is locked up, the hd light stays off. I doubt this is a KMail problem, I rather think you have problems with your graphics driver or with X in general. Does this really not happen with any other applications?
Thanks for thinking about this problem for me... I would tend to agree with you, except for the irrefutable evidence which has presented itself... 1. I have loaded Debian Sarge on about 5 different computers a. None have had this problem 2. This computer was behaving wonderfully, until I opened KMail for the first time... after it began having this problem with the status bars... also, if I don't use KMail the computer works great... when I use KMail for too long it gets the lines and locks up... Evolution works great with this computer though... this patterns leads me to believe that there is something inherent in KMail that is causing the i810 video chipset to have a cow... PLEASE do not use e-mail for the bug comments, use bugzilla directly. Your signature and the original message clutter up the comments and makes them hard to read. If your computer completely locks up, this can not be the sole fault of KMail. Regardless of how any appliaction misbehaves, the system should stay stable. It is not even necessarily a bug in KMail that triggers the wrong behavior, maybe KMail just does something which all other apps do not do, but which is not wrong. I still would like a screenshot of the statusbar. BTW, I have seen vertical multicolored lines as well, but in my case, it was a bug in the NVIDIA driver when switching virtual terminals.
No response for a month now and this hardly can be KMail's fault (let alone we have the circumstances to reproduce). Closing.
I can't get a screenshot of it... because, all I have is a multi-colored screen, not even a mouse... nothing but very narrow multi-colored lines... up and down the screen... However, I have learned one thing more... I installed and updated ClamAV and it does almost the same thing... the lines in the boxes (windo__) title bars... but it doesn't lock up as reliably... it only locks up once in a blue moon and only when I have the entire display (configuration panel) open... and then intermittently at that... very strange stuff... so, the problem is NOT Kmail... it is something that Kmail and ClamAV and/or KlamAV are calling (aka: using)... Hmmmm
