Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.1) Installed from: Mandriva RPMs OS: Linux I have been using KMail for several years now and although it is a fantastic application there is one of its features that I have *never* been able to get used to and which still annoys me to this date. That is, the way that scrolling behaves in the message list window. At the moment, when scrolling, the focus will stubbornly remain on the middle of the screen. I would like to see this changed to the behavior one would normally expect, ie. start scrolling only when the focus reaches the top or the bottom of the list. I can't understand for the life of me why KMail behaves the way it currently does, but I do understand that some people have gotten used to (and even like) the current behavior. So perhaps a good compromise would be to make it a configurable setting, letting the end user decide how they want the scrolling to behave?
A long time ago, kmail was not so eager to center the current message in the message list. Rather, it behaved exactly like you want. Unfortunately that changed somewhere along the way, and I too dislike its behavior. Not only is it visually disconcerting for the list to be jumping around all the time, but it slows the screen updates down as well. I agree that there should be an option to scroll either way.

Ah thank you Luigi for suggesting that. I was planning to start a new request under Kmail2 but I'm on vacation and would have had to wait until getting back home. Just replying here, however, I can do without being home ;-) So, yes, I'm the original poster of this request and would like to renew it as I am still using Kmail (now Kmail2) and have not noticed any change in the scrolling behavior. And I would still very much like to see this change in future releases. Thanks!
