Description Chris Hughes 2007-04-12 11:51:54 UTC
Version: 0.12.4 (using KDE 3.5.6, Kubuntu (feisty) 4:3.5.6-0ubuntu14)
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.20-14-generic

Hey there, I switched from ubuntu 7.04 to kubuntu 7.04, with a fresh install off the beta alternative install cd. After 6 hours of pain and mental agony I finally got ndiswrapper to deal with my wifi card, and had internet access. At this point kopete was connecting me to msn, and there were no probs. Then I mounted my second drive into the /home/username folder, and copied across the appropriate hidden folders, .kde/share/kopete being one of them. Since then the dumb little butterfly flaps a few times, then dies, and goes back to being offline. All the other protocols work fine, like Yahoo, AIM etc. I've had more 'issues' with buggy software than with gnome so far, but I have all the features and options that I want, and the built in apps are awesome, and I know kopete is one of them - just looking at all the features I was sat there wishing gaim had. So keep up the good work people!

I would also like to add that although I am connected to the internet and wireless network, KNetworkManager thinks not, and remains firmly resolved that I am disconnected. If I try and connect through it's methods, it gets stuck at 28%, configuring devices. This is a known bug in the new version of ndiswrapper, and I have a suspicion that this is related, making kopete think that I'm offline, or have it not detect my current network settings for some reason.

Ok, I have some level of confirmation of my above post, I did get knetworkmanager to connect to it, albeit by luck and root terminal, and since it thinks it's connected, kopete can now connect with msn. The issue is, only this plugin and konqueror had this issue. Everything else (firefox, thunderbird, apt-get) could work with the 'alternate configuration' of the networks, done by 'Static configuration'.

Is this still an issue? All of the working applications you mentioned appear to be non KDE apps, is there any KDE app that does work?

i didn't change o.s. version...but from last week when i connect to msn kopete doesn't reach msn server...the cute butterfly flip his wings passionately...then dies..:S . it's very frustrating live with this bug...but we should not forget who made MSN protocol...

bye thanks

Connecting to MSN stopped to work for me a week ago. It ties to connect then dies. No error messages, no output in console.

It doesn't work if I recreate the account. Yahoo works fine. MSN works on another PC on my LAN just fine :(

Any help on this issue? What can I do to help resolve this bug? tcpdump output? I don't know...

By the way I'm using latest kopete 3.5.8 on Gentoo. Proxy isn't used in kopete.
Comment 7 Gokdeniz Karadag 2008-05-24 17:00:02 UTC
Proxy in Konqueror effects kopete also, please check it. See #138052
Comment 8 Vanya 2008-05-24 17:24:31 UTC
Actually Kopete started to work again after a month or two wihtout any changes from my side...
Strange.
Comment 9 Stef Louwers 2008-07-07 18:32:30 UTC
Seems fixed by an update?

ps.: The status KNetworkManager gives can be ignored by just closing KNetworkManager.

We've completely replaced the current MSN implementation with a new MSN implementation which If you continue to experience this bug after testing the new implementation (which can be gotten from our subversion repository or with the KDE 4.2 Beta 1 release), PLEASE, open a new bug rather than reopening this bug. Thank you for your time and efforting in helping us find and fix problems in Kopete.
