Description Tristan Grimaux 2007-04-10 18:08:31 UTC
Version: 0.2 (using KDE 3.5.6, Kubuntu (feisty) 4:3.5.6-0ubuntu13)
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.20-14-generic

It is very common to loose the mouse cursor when changing screen resolutions, or video drivers. And in this app, there is no way to navigate with the keyboard to get to the Monitor & Display page. A cheap way would be to add a simple menu (with categories as submenus, if pleases you).

In many occasions the only way to get the cursor back is restarting, and then, if the video settings are the wrong ones, get the xorg.conf editted manually.

Icons in systemsettings must act like file icons in dolphin/konqueror.
Comment 4 Sasha Unspecified 2008-06-03 20:49:00 UTC
I mean:
-- the possibility to move between them using keyboard (Left/Right/Up/Down, Home/End/PageUp/PageDown, Enter, etc).
-- they must obey KDE's global selection policy (if I choose "Double-click to open file or folders", that icons must open bu double click, not by single click)

The problem reported by sasha is not pertinent on this bug. There is another bug report about that issue, but I don't remember the bug number :-p
Comment 6 Maciej Pilichowski 2008-11-14 09:01:42 UTC
One thing I wonder if this report is valid at all, because I cannot remember where in KDE/KControl user was able to change drivers for X...? Distro-specific?
Comment 7 FiNeX 2008-11-14 09:56:53 UTC
Maciej, you could be right.
Comment 8 Sasha Unspecified 2008-11-29 13:37:04 UTC
To FiNeX: First I reported my wish/bug separately -- but that report was marked as duplicate of this one, so I've continued describing it here.

To Maciej: I don't think that we should somehow consider possibility of changing drivers through KDE/KControl. Lack of keyboard access is a bug per se.
I mean:
1. The keyboard is a primary device for controlling PC (mouse is designed only for learning users and occassinal operations, IMHO). A soft that cannot be controlled by keyboard, or is controlled in non-standard way (e.g. a textbox, which a user can type text in, but cannot use Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V/Home/End/Ctrl+Left/Ctrl+Right and other keys he defined) is very unhandy for user. Similarly, icons that user can only click with mouse, but cannot select using Left/Right/Enter/etc are also unhandy for user.
2. Anyway... User could change drivers not through KDE (in some other way) (and loose his mouse cursor).

Hmmm... I've reread the text... Maybe you are right... It seems that these bug reports were joined wrongly (wrongly marked as duplicate), and I should find/open/reopen another report for that.

Ok.

Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this project has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug. Kcontrol has been replaced by System Settings in Plasma. Please give the latest version of that a try, and open a new bug in "systemsettings" if you continue to have an issue. Thank you!
