Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.6) Installed from: Compiled From Sources Compiler: gcc-4.0.1 OS: Linux The "select" button of kmail's Message Composer displays my email addresses with solid dark blue bands obscuring every other address. I succeeded in eliminating these color bands in my address book by using the address book's View menu * Modify View * Look&Feel and changing options Alternating Backgrounds to ---> None. However, this had no affect on my composer select button's dialog box I also checked the kmailrc configuration file but the only thing I found there that could possibly have some effect was the section labeled [RecipientPicker]. This section only has these two entries: CurrentCollection=1 Size=413,282 Please note that KDE-3.5.6 is installed in in the home directory of a user seperate from my system-wide KDE-3.4.2 installation Here is a snip of the user's ~/.bash_profile: KDEDIR=/home/kdedev/kde-3.5.6 PATH=/home/kdedev/kde-3.5.6/bin:$PATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/home/kdedev/kde-3.5.6/lib export KDEDIR PATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH
Please check the Alternative Background Color configured under Appearance/Colors in KMail's configuration dialog.

What do you mean by "obscuring"? This alternate background color thing is used in all KDE applications which use KListView, this can hardly be KMail's fault. Please attach a screenshot.

MY kmail * settings * configure kmail * colors [tab] --does not have the custom colors option checked. However, if I do check the custom colors box, then Alternate Background Color is White. Also, if I change it to another color it has no effect on the select (recepient) dialog box Thank you for your speedy reply.
The reporter sent me the following by private mail (Stan, please don't use email, but use the bugs.kde.org interface directly in the future!): === By obscuring, I mean the underlying text data is there but only visible if I select the color band with my mouse. I have attached two snapshot files to show what's happening. The snapshot3.png shows that the text is visible if highlighted with my mouse. By-the-way, I do have the same color band problem in the Ark & Digikam programs but they only show up when launched in the kde-3.5.6 environment. If I start the same programs from my kde-3.4.2 environment there is no color band problem. Sorry if I gave you the impression that Kmail was the sole cupprit. but the bug report wanted to hear about kde-3.5.6 pkg applications not about general kde applications. Thank you for your quick reply & I hope I gave you more relevent information this time. I'm sort of new at this bug reporting thing. === Changing product to kdelibs then. Stan, maybe your colors are incorrectly configured in the control center? Please check (in the control center) Appearance & Themes->Colors and try if changing you color scheme helps.

My Kde Bug# 143698--Not Really A Bug I appoligize for reporting this as a bug. I discovered the kmail color bands were due to a setting in the Kde Control Center called "Widget Colors" * "Alternating Background List" I spent days trying to figure this out & I am amazed that your initial feedback was right on target. I'm even more amazed at how fast I got a response to my initial report. Please keep up the good work & thank you ---Stan Senuta
Not a bug, closing then.
