Description Nicolas Brisset 2007-03-07 12:44:55 UTC
Version: 1.4.0_devel (using KDE 3.4.0, compiled sources)
Compiler: gcc version 3.4.3
OS: SunOS (sun4u) release 5.8

Now that we have custom strings and that they work well, a nice facility for often used strings (think: copyright, company name, dept, etc...) would be to be able to define/modify/store them in kst settings.
I am aware that this won't go into 1.4 and it is not really mandatory, but I think it would be a nice addition and probably not overly complicated.

It sounds as if these strings would be stored at the application level, i.e. in the configuration file of Kst. Should they also be stored in a session file? If a kst file is loaded on another machine which values would take priority?

Sorting out some old mail, I stumbled across your previous coööent, which I had forgotten to answer.
You're asking a good question, and based on the workflow I have in mind (which is producing plots with some typical strings without needing to redefine them each and every time, possibly exporting them from time to time in .kst form to coworkers/partners) I'd say we should:
1) store the strings in the kst settings
2) add in the settings just below the list of strings a checkbox "save to .kst files"
3) give precedence to the strings stored in the .kst over the "local" ones

Could be still open in Kst 1.

Not Solaris-specific (probably can be closed as "this was a request against many many versions ago", but it might still be relevant in kst)

Yes, this request is quite old but nonetheless still applicable... So it should be left open please.
