Description Gudy 2007-02-17 06:21:21 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.6)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

in many web pages when you use the "back" button you get this message over and over again"
Could not start process Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol ''.
.
it could be nice to have it displayed only 1 second and then autoclose the dialog....
Comment 1 Bram Schoenmakers 2007-02-17 16:22:29 UTC
Looks more like a configuration issue to me.
Comment 2 Daniel Hahler 2007-02-25 22:36:34 UTC
It is related to the "Open popups in new tab instead of in new window" setting in the "Advanced Options" in Konqueror's "Web Behaviour" settings.

If (Javascript) popups open in a new tab, the "Back" button is clickable and causes an error like:
"""
Could not start process Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol ''.
.
"""

You can reproduce this by:
1. Enable "Open popups in new tab instead of in new window"
2. Go to http://www.create-rainforest.org/en/index
3. Click "satellite map" in the top menu bar
4. In the new tab, click the "Back" button

I'm not sure if the initial reporter is also experiencing this with javascript popups, but it seems to be related to this for me.

This bug was introduced in 3.5.5 (or 3.5.4) IIRC.

Hi,
I've reported a bug with similar message
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=142663
but this one (141815) also happens to me.
Would you like to read my report and test if it also happens to you, please?

got the problem by visiting web pages then a sub page then click
the "back arrow" to go back to the main page ,get every time "klauncher
said: Unknown protocol ''.
it is only in konqurer,if I do the same in Opera,no problem at all
...I also wonder a bit about the "bugs" icon on the lright bottom...it seems
nearly no webpage is without bugs....questionable

Comment 5 Kusi 2007-06-10 17:58:48 UTC
got the same bug when starting korganizer

"Could not start process Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol ''."

The bug mentioned in #3 also happens to me. I only got this io-slave problem after upgrading from 3.5.6 to 3.5.7 (gentoo). When I login as a different user, I don't experience the problem, so it's probably a configuration issue.

My unsuccessful attempts to solve the issues
- deleting all entries of korganizer in .kde
- deleting kioslaverc
Comment 6 Kusi 2007-06-10 18:47:49 UTC
FYI: I fixed my issue by deleting
/home/kusi/.kde/share/config/kresources/calendar

maybe the solution to solve the problem with konq is similar
Comment 7 Thomas Kallenberg 2007-10-17 02:16:56 UTC
This Bug still persists in KDE 3.5.8 with konqueror 3.5.8! What is the status? Opening a popup in a tab shouldn't "active" the back-button!
Comment 8 David Heidelberg 2007-11-12 18:34:34 UTC
Gentoo/KDE 3.5.8 Konqueror 3.5.8 Reporting same problem with kde-look.org!
Comment 9 J. Becker 2009-01-05 23:26:39 UTC
This bug is unrelated but may contain a work-around for those affected by a similar io-slave error on reload:

Hi! Konqueror on KDE3 is no more mantained, is someone able to reproduce this issue on KDE 4.2 beta2?

Thanks!
Comment 11 David Heidelberg 2009-01-06 18:53:58 UTC
Konqueror from circa 4.1.x working fine :-)
Comment 12 FiNeX 2009-01-06 21:48:29 UTC
I'm not able to reproduce it on KDE 4 too.
Comment 13 J. Becker 2009-01-06 22:49:10 UTC
I was not able to reproduce it on KDE 3. I clicked
http://www.create-rainforest.org/en/index
on which "satellite map" was a normal (non-popup) link to
http://www.create-rainforest.org/en/satmap
I then clicked "Take a look at our Satellite Map right in your browser."
which opened a new window with no menubars or toolbars.
I turned on menubars and "Back" is greyed out.
So I'd say that it was either a problem in your configuration or doesn't exist in 3.5.10 Konqueror.

See my bug report at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=179764 , which
may contain a work around if you are still experiencing the problem.
