Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages
Compiler:          gcc 4.1.2 
OS:                Linux

In KDE set to use English language for everything it uses French MIME information translations.

Some examples:
zip -- Archive Zip (instead of "Zip Archive")
tar.gz -- Archive Tar compactée par Gzip

Probably the translations for MIME types are chosen by system variables like $LANG, $LC_LANG, $LC_ALL etc.

KDE 3.x uses it's own variable to choose the language/translation. If $KDE_LANG and $LANG are set to different locales, this could lead to mixed up languages.

Constantin: Please post the result of this command:

env | grep LANG

This bug is 2 years old, still unconfirmed and we don't get any further information from reporter.
Thus I close this bug.
