Description ecem çelik 2007-02-11 01:05:42 UTC
Version: 0.12.3 (using KDE 3.5.5, Gentoo)
Compiler: Target: i386-pc-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.18-gentoo-r6

I changed my msn picture from accounts, and albeit it's actually updated (buddies i've been talking to say the picture _is_ changed) my IM dialogs in kopete are still showing the old picture.

When testing my optimizations to speed up the repainting when the remote avatar updates I noticed the same problem.

What should be done on changing the avatar is the same that happens when the peer is changing avatar, i.e. reapplying the style again.

I can second that using kopete svn trunk r835161.

I changed my avatar and while sandsmark sees it, i still see my old one. Even after i reopen the chatwindow, my avatar isnt updated.

Confirmed. Avatar support in kopete is REALLY broken! I have seen several strange scenarios.

In msn, once upon a time, I had set a tux icon as my avatar. I think I have changed this sometimes but I *think* this was the last avatar I used before upgrading to kde4. In kde4, no matter what icon I set as my avatar in kopete, I keep seeing the same tux icon. A remote contact using kopete confirmed that he also sees this tux icon. Another remote contact with windows live messenger said he sees the default icon (i.e. no avatar). Once, I managed to change it (not sure how, but I did it). The scenario was that I set another avatar in kopete on my desktop and then logged in kopete on my laptop and I was seeing the new avatar (however I had set the same avatar in kopete on the laptop, so I am not sure what did the update). Logging back on the desktop, I saw the old avatar.

Similar scenarios with jabber. Setting a new avatar in kopete updates the avatar in the server (logging in with psi afterwards shows that the avatar is changed). However, using kopete, both me and remote contacts see the old avatar.

kde 4.0.98 (debian experimental)
kopete: 0.50.80

My avantar shown in msn and jabber chats is not what I selected for default identity. It took it from one of my jabber accounts. Was already configured before bought this computer.

Contacts wing msn report I have no avatar (Windows Live Messenger 8.1 and 8.5.1302.1018).
Contacts using jabber report the same (Gmail web client).

Using default identify never works

Using image for each account something weird happened. Contacts didn't recieve my avatar on msn until I opened jabber config

There is also another scenario that we tested with Ramon yesterday, if a remote contact using windows live messenger changes his avatar while I am not chatting with him, the avatar never shows up in kopete. I keep seeing the old one even if I start a new chat with him afterwards and/or restart kopete and windows live on the other side. I saw there is an option for that in msn account preferences, but I set this to "download the msn picture: automatically" and it still doesn't happen.

I'm seeing this bug with KDE 4.1.3 and Kopete 0.60.3. I went into ~/.kde/share/apps/kopete/avatars/Contacts and found some avatars, but no more were being downloaded. I tried deleting them all and removing their entries in their respective avatarconfig.rc files and monitoring the directory with 'du -c .', but the size stayed at 0 bytes even after restarting Kopete, opening and closing chat windows, and explicitly requesting avatars. I'm using the MSN protocol, by the way.

I spoke too soon. Since my last post two avatars have been downloaded. So it looks as if they are downloaded/update, but it goes incredibly slow. My internet connection is more than capable of downloading these pictures at a much faster rate.

Most (all) of this should be fixed in KDE SC 4.3 or later, if you still see bugs reported here please create new bug report. Thanks
