Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.6) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux In remote:/ there is an entry titled "Samba Shares" A new user would have no idea what this means, and would not know to look there for windows shares. This should be renamed to something that is more self explanatory. Originally reported here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase/+bug/50264 There are some ideas to rename it to "Network Shares (SMB)" or "Windows Shares (using Samba)".
This could be still valid in KDE4.
Created attachment 69323 [details] Rename 'Samba Shares' to 'Windows Shares (SMB)' This simply renames 'Samba Shares' to 'Windows Shares (SMB)' I am open to suggestions for other names. patch against kde-runtime/kioslave/smb/smb-network.desktop Not sure how to commit this..
My vote is on "Network Shares (SMB/CIFS)". - Network shares will be understandable for people coming from a Windows environment, while specifying the protocols won't piss off those to whom network sharing is solely nfs.
"Windows Shares" won't work because Samba is now used by all three major platforms (Mac, Windows, and Linux). We should still use a better term though.

Git commit 80429a0ed768501b64b5fd7f85c978cb7856a367 by Nathaniel Graham. Committed on 09/05/2018 at 13:01. Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master'. Use a more intuitive, user-friendly name for Samba share access Summary: "Samba shares" is a jargonistic term that won't mean much to most people. This patch replaces it with a more intuitive and user-friendly term.
