Description vonbirn 2007-02-03 21:39:20 UTC
Version: 1.2.4 (using KDE KDE 3.5.6)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

Yesterday KWin crashed and wasn't controllable anymore. So I killed kdm with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. After signing in again, Kontact didn't start any more. It crashes on startup. But Kmail, aKregator, Knode or other Plugins are loadable. Then, only as separate Programms. And they work properly.

Comment 1 Philip Rodrigues 2007-02-04 01:37:26 UTC
Try renaming ~/.kde/share/config/kontactrc . Does kontact run then?
Comment 2 vonbirn 2007-02-04 18:16:28 UTC
No. I even deleted this file. But the problem continues to exist.
Comment 3 Azary Smotrich 2007-02-06 03:53:18 UTC
I have the same problem after upgrading to the latest KDE 3.5.6 RPMs from SuSE site: kontact crashes on startup with very similar trace; individual components, such as kmail, korganizer, kaggregator, kpilot and K address book can be started individually and work fine. I tried removing the ~/.kde/share/config/kontactrc too, no effect.

Here is the trace:

Same situation here.
Everything worked fine before upgrading to the latest KDE 3.5.6 RPMs from openSUSE site.
After that, individual applications work fine but Kontact crashes on startup with this trace:

Comment 7 Philip Rodrigues 2007-02-07 23:24:50 UTC
A debug-enabled backtrace for this could help a lot - if your distro provides debug-enabled packages, please install them (kdelibs and kdepim) and paste the resulting backtrace.
Comment 8 Azary Smotrich 2007-02-08 00:20:37 UTC
Sorry, but no debug packages for kdelibs or kdepim are available for SuSE10.1, at least from the SuSE site.

Comment 10 Werner Habel 2007-02-09 15:06:26 UTC
Bug was solved here:

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=244022

deinstalling basket did it for me.
Comment 11 Frank Osterfeld 2007-02-10 08:32:11 UTC
I consider this as fixed, caused by a buggy third-party plugin. vonbirn,
reopen if your case is different from https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=244022
Comment 12 Ian Powell 2007-02-10 14:15:28 UTC
Thanks for the tip - removing Basket also cured it for me - it was installed
on my system but it was not configured in Kontact. It was once, for about 1
day, so i could try it. I had removed it from Kontact a long time ago - i
had to use "rpm -e"

It was slightly differently for me: today I upgraded to the latest patch of kcall and everything started to work perfectly. No basket uninstallation was necessary, in fact basket is running from inside the kontact right now.

KDE team, you are doing an excellent job, thank you!
Comment 14 Ark 2007-05-27 18:59:17 UTC
I have the same bug, but now it's ok.
The problem is with the old configuration of kontact and akregator. Specially the second.
Just erase all the configuration files (minus the feeds.opml), and all work again ^ ^
