Description Joseph Reagle 2007-02-01 00:01:05 UTC
Version: 3.5.6 (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
OS: Linux

After upgrading to KDE 3.5.6 I lose keyboard input/control to the Java application Freemind shortly after beginning to use it. I don't know what exactly triggers the loss, but it usually occurs within a minute of using it. I've gone back to KDE 3.5.5 because of this. I don't know if this is KWin, but that's my guess.

Ah, yes, versions:

Freemind Version 0.7.2
sun-java6-jre - Sun Java(TM) Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.6.0

Could you please confirm it's really KWin by upgrading only it?

After
`dpkg --force-all -i /var/cache/apt/archives/kwin_4%3a3.5.6-0ubuntu1_i386.deb`
I'm not noticing the bug yet -- and usually it appeared quickly. Perhaps
it's in a dependent library (not installed) or another package all
together?

Since this bugreport is rather short on any pointers it can certainly increase changes of getting this fixed if you find out what exactly triggers the problem.

I've seen a problem like this as well. It happens with Limewire, which was opened through a X11 forwarded session with SSH. The window is partially painted (or sometimes not at all). Mouse actions work properly, but the window cannot grab keyboard focus.

I have tried from 3.5.2 to 3.5.6 and the bug existed in all these versions. I was not able to compile older KDE versions on my system due to compile errors.

Not a problem anymore for me in 3.5.10: closing.
