Description Peter Hindrichs 2007-01-27 14:58:52 UTC
Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages
OS:                Linux

When I try to make a Keyboard Shortcut for an Application, ie. Regional & Accessibility - Keyboard Shortcuts - Command Shortcuts, at this point it crashes. In version 3.5.4 not a problem worked fine. Now in 3.5.5 this is what happens and I get the msg. "The application System Settings (SystemSettings) crashed and caused the Signal 6 (SIGABRT)

Do you get a backtrace? If so, please paste it here. You can get a good backtrace by installing the kdelibs-dbg and kdebase-dbg packages
Comment 2 Peter Hindrichs 2007-01-28 03:44:18 UTC
Hello Philip,

When I try to install the packages

 kdelibs-dbg and kdebase-dbg packages this is the msg. I get;

"There was an error commiting changes. Possibly there was a problem downloading some packages or the commit would break packages."
Not sure how to proceed, at this point.

Not sure what you are saying here. If I am not following a certain
protocal, let me know as this is my first time using this function.

I tried an sudo apt-get update this is what I get;

Failed to fetch http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde-latest/dists/dapper/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found
Comment 5 Philip Rodrigues 2007-01-28 17:46:47 UTC
I'm afraid I don't use (k)ubuntu, so I don't know anything about its packaging system. You might be able to get some help in a kubuntu support forum
Comment 6 Peter Hindrichs 2007-01-28 18:18:06 UTC
I have asked the question, on the Kubuntu forum and am awaiting an answer. Once I have that sorted out I shall get back to you with the backtrace.
Comment 7 Peter Hindrichs 2007-01-30 20:59:43 UTC
According to the Kubuntu forum the packages that you suggested that I need to install are no longer on the database.
That is why I am getting the msg. "There was an error commiting changes. Possibly there was a problem downloading some packages or the commit would break packages."
Kubuntu is getting ready for 3.5.6 for the edgy version.
So with out the above packages I can't give you a backtrace.
Not sure how to proceed, at this point.
I am not sure how to proceed now. Should I uninstall 3.5.5 and reinstall 3.5.4 (as that version was working fine.) Or can I install 3.5.6 over top of 3.5.5.?
i am really at a loss here as how to proceed.!!

OK here is the backtrace that I got when I tried the above:

Have you had a chance to look at my backtrace.? It appears that I am not the only one with this problem, another Linux type on the Kbuntu forum has the same issue.
Comment 10 Philip Rodrigues 2007-02-03 00:07:14 UTC
I'll have to leave the backtrace to the developers. I'm just a triager :-)
