Description Nicolas Cedilnik 2007-01-11 10:21:24 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
OS: Linux

I've tried to change kdm welcome message using KDE Control Center. It did change the file /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc (GreetString=MyNewWelcomeMsg), but kdm still displays my old welcome message.
I'm using automatic delayed connection (I don't think it is related...)

i think you are facing the same problem as in #98154. please confirm.
Comment 2 Nicolas Cedilnik 2007-01-11 17:55:59 UTC
the only line containing the word "theme" inside my kdmrc is
Theme=/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/circles
If I can help more, just tell me what to do !

Thanks for considering my bug report !

errm, ok, different theory:
as you compiled kde yourself, it is highly improbable that your kdm config lives in /etc. check out ${prefix}/share/config/kdm.
Comment 4 Nicolas Cedilnik 2007-01-11 18:02:34 UTC
Not a valid theory... but it's my fault.
In fact i'm using Debian/Unstable official packages. Looks like I've reported too fast ;)
Comment 5 Oswald Buddenhagen 2007-01-11 18:10:05 UTC
!@ยง$!" - there is no debian unstable in the platform list. testing comes closest.

anyway ... this opens new possibilities, for example distro-specific magic. :)
some guy from debian or one of its derivatives recently talked to me about injecting config modifications. maybe check /var/lib/kdm or something to that effect. simply running kdm with -debug 2 to find out what it thinks you configured it like should help as well.

i've reported the bug to debian : http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=406939

rejecting as packaging/config/whatever bug.

hi oswald,

i'm the debian guy who talked with you about some magic for kdm customization :)

I don't think it's a distro specific bug but a duplicate of #98154 (Like your 1st comment).
