Description Rick Graves 2007-01-10 14:58:21 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

I am using Kubuntu 6.06 on three computers, desktops at the home and office, plus my laptop when traveling. On all 3 computers, Yahoo mail causes Konqueror to lock up or freeze. This started a couple of weeks ago. The only solution is to end the current session, go back in, and use Firefox for Yahoo mail. It usually only takes a couple of minutes for Konq to lock up when using Yahoo mail. Konq does not lock up for anything else. I would rather use Konq, but it is not useable for Yahoo mail. In IE and Firefox, Yahoo presents a new beta version. When you first go in in Konq, you get a message that yahoo beta does not support your browser, so the only choice is to use the old yahoo mail. If Konq would work, I would rather use Konq and the old yahoo mail than Firefox and the new beta. Thanks.

I successfully used mail.yahoo.com for a while with konqueror (kubuntu edgy 3.5.5). Could you try to update to more recent version and retry.

On all 3 computers, I upgraded to kunbuntu 6.10 Edgy about one week ago. Just today, on one of the computers I use, Konq froze in Yahoo mail again, and I am back to Firefox for Yahoo mail. Before I moved to Edgy, I came to the conclusion that Konq does not freeze at first on a new install, but only starts freezing after a "while," which for me is about one week's worth of emails. But once it starts, it will freeze reliably. I have not been using the laptop since I upgraded, but one week from now I will be travelling, so I will start using it. The other desktop has not frozen in Konq yet.

Kong on my office desktop locked up earlier today. After getting home and firing up the desktop here, Kong also froze here while Yahoo mail was in the process of displaying an email. So both desktops locked up within several hours of each other. One detail is that I typically have two Konq sessions going, one for the file system and one for the web. In each of the two, I have several tabs open. When my home desktop locked up a short while ago, I had 8 tabs open. Yahoo was first, the web front end to the company web server was second, Google was third, a two newspapers occupied tabs, and the like. I concluded that Konq was locking up on Yahoo mail because 1) when Konq locks up, I am always in the process of displaying a message in Yahoo, and 2) by using Firefox for Yahoo and Konq for everything else, nothing locks up.

I am now traveling, and on my laptop, which I coverted to 6.10 Edgy since my last trip. While getting caught up on email for the first time on the trip, (I had lots of tabs open) and Konq froze after about 90 minutes. So I am back in Firefox for Yahoo mail.

I also am noticing this problem. There doesn't seem to be a connection between the number of Konqueror sessions open or the number of tabs. I have Kubuntu fiesty fawn and KDE and Konqueror report version 3.5.6. For some reason it tends to occur most often when I have searched for a message and choose the "next" link to get the next message. If I search for "sladden," open a particular message, and then click next it will freeze every time. For the most part though, it works just fine.

I have no problem with this in Konqueror 3.5.9.

And also not in Konqueror 4 (r802881). I will close this bug, if the problem persists, please reopen.
