Description Tim Wunder 2007-01-03 04:20:50 UTC
Version: 1.4.4 (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from:    Fedora RPMs
OS:                Linux

When using amarok to connect to a SanDisk sansa e250R as a Generic Audio Device, amarok will occasionally freeze when managing the files on the device.

The device has a music folder, but when the files get transferred, if they don't go into the music folder, you have to move them there. When you do that, Amarok will occasionally freeze in an unrecoverable way. You have to 'killall amarokapp' and restart amarok to continue.

The freeze up tends to occur more frequently if you move multiple files at one time, or move files rapidly one after then other.

Sorry I don't have better reproducability steps :(

Which version of libmtp do you use?
Comment 2 Tim Wunder 2007-01-03 14:43:58 UTC
$ rpm -q libmtp libusb
libmtp-0.0.21-1.fc5
libusb-0.1.11-2.2

Is libmtp used even when the player is configured as a Generic Audio Device?

No, there is a separate MTP plugin. If you don't see it, it's probably not compiled into your package...you could either compile Amarok yourself or see if there's an add-on RPM that has the library.

I haven't heard about other people having problems transferring with the generic media device, so if your player is really a MTP one, that seems like the likely reason.

Amarok would not connect to it as an MTP device.

And the files transfer fine, it's after the transfer, when manipulating the files on the device after transfer is when Aarok locks up.

I am sorry but this will not get fixed in Amarok 1.4 as we are focused on Amarok 2 now.

Thank you for your report.
