Description Heiner Lamprecht 2007-01-01 14:50:50 UTC
Version: 0.9.1-svn / 2006-12-29 (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)

The dialog in digiKam and showFoto for activating the plugins uses a lot of useless space. All plugin names start with "ImagePlugin_", all descriptions start with "digiKam-Modul for". Both can be removed without any loss of information.

The configuration for the kipi-plugins should be merged with the one for the digiKam-plugins. Most users will not care for the architectural differences. They just want to configure plugins.

If it is not possible to merge the plugins in one list, it might be possible to have one configuration page "Plugins" with two tabs, both lists should than look similar.

Is there a reason, why the kipi-plugins can not be used in showFoto?

As for me, showFoto is just a viewer of the digiKam-package. So it would be better to have the configuration in sync with digiKam, especially the settings for "ICC Profiles", "IO files", "Slide Show" and "Image Plugins". The "General Settings" in showFoto can be integrated as "showFoto" into the digiKam configuration.

The shortcut configuration should also be in sync.

Since DigikamImageplugins were merged into main Digikam in 0.9.2 (see [1]), I would suggest that we comletely remove configuration of digikam plugins. I agree that having two plugins, just cause more confusion and now that we have digikam plugins merged into main application, there is not much benefit in having then configurable (enable/disable individual plugins).
If this is ok with digikam developers, I can remove this configuration from digikam.

Remove configuration of Digikam Image Plugins

Image Plugins are now considered part of core Digikam, therefore it does
not make sense to configure them (enable/disable). This also reduces
confusion for users with KIPI Plugins.
