Version:           1.9.5 (using KDE 3.5.5, Gentoo)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.4.6 (Gentoo 3.4.6-r1, ssp-3.4.5-1.0, pie-8.7.9)
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.18-gentoo-r6

The changed size of the preview window wasn't restored if I end the KDE session and start a new session. But if I exited KMail explicitly in a KDE session and stated a news KDE session the size of the preview windows was restored correctly.

Oops, forgot to close this bug  - "save sassion" is the answer
