Description Mathew Hennessy 2006-12-13 19:59:59 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs
OS: Linux

Please add support for Trillian's SecureIM encryption mechanism to Kopete's AIM and/or ICQ transports.

I searched the bug DB for the SecureIM keyword and found nothing, so I figured I'd add it as a wishlist.

Is Trillian SecureIM different from AIM SecureIM?
Comment 2 Mathew Hennessy 2006-12-17 21:34:17 UTC
I believe they are different, and there's a few projects/products called SecureIM out there. IIRC AOL's SecureIM protocol does cert-based authentication using private user certs, while Trillian's SecureIM protocol uses Diffie-Hellman keys and AES encryption.

IIRC there's an opensource java implementation of Trillian's SecureIM in the joscar project (http://freshmeat.net/projects/joscar/) which may at least be useful for documenting the protocol.

Thanks for the information.

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
