Description Mohd Asif Ali Rizwaan 2006-12-09 21:23:38 UTC
Version: 3.5.5 (using KDE 3.5.5, Kubuntu (feisty) 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-3ubuntu8)
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.19-7-generic

There are many special characters which konqueror copy as 'garbage' into the clipboard. though konqi renders them fine in the html. Examples.. smart (stupid) quotes, "...", "—", etc. The problem is with CTRL+C (or RMB->copy text) which makes special characters as garbage, but middle click (as paste) works fine.

How to reproduce:

0. see the attachment html file
1. select and copy (with ctrl+c) the text from "Getting Started..." to "..William James"
2. open oowriter, paste the text using ctrl+v
3. in the same window of oowriter paste using middle click, the characters are pasted fine.

Here's what you'd expect with ctrl+v:
Getting Started…On The Right Foot
“Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task.”
—William James

but you get:

"Getting Started…On The Right Foot
“Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task.â€ン
—William James"

Whereas firefox copies the text properly to the clipboard. i donno, whether it's oowriter 2.0.3 or kde's clipboard causing the problem...???

Thanks.

may be with "Richtext Clipboard" copying is having the problem; cause, text pasted on kwrite, kedit, kate, kword does not show the error. But ironically the formatting (richtext) is lost.

But this bug is associated with khtml->oowriter (a non kde app) and pasting with ctrl+v to oowriter does include formatting (richtext) as expected but with garbage characters :(
