I can confirm this bug, it happens here too, ripping is indeed rather slow. Kernel 2.6.17 using a SATA DVD ROM Drive
Kio_audiocd seems to call cdparanoia. Using cdparanois itself also triggers above error message, so i guess this is not a problem in kio_audiocd, but rather an "error" (kernel source of sg.c says, that it's only a warning) in cdparanoia.
Upgrading to cdparanoia III 10pre0 solved this problem for me (http://xiph.org/paranoia/trouble.html#useemu).
It didn't solve the problem for me. And i'm getting these SCSI bus resets everytime one of the kio_slaves get used, like when i'm inserting a usb memory stick, mounting something, inserting a disc into an ide drive, etc. Would be realy great that this very annoying bug gets fixed.
Bug still exists in 3.5.7
