Description Maciej Pilichowski 2006-11-27 11:18:08 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I think it is a crash-report really, because KDE causes to crash every running app, even itself it is does not crash.

Hardware power off should shutdown system for one session, but for more than one it should close the session (log out) not shutdown!
Comment 1 Stephan Kulow 2006-11-27 11:33:00 UTC
Sorry, KDE does nothing about the power button. This is handled by the operating system and SUSE's shuts down.
Comment 2 Maciej Pilichowski 2006-11-27 14:46:50 UTC
Stephan, are you sure? So how it would be possible for several KDE apps to detect KDE shutdown (in single session mode) -- this is already done?

In other words -- KDE should not perform KDE shutdown if there is >1 session.
Comment 3 Maciej Pilichowski 2006-11-27 15:04:28 UTC
PS. To be precise -- in single session "mode" KDE is capable to refuse shutdown and it sits still (tested). So once it is possible for one session, why it is not possible for two sessions? I really doubt it is SuSE issue (of course I don't know who wrote this shutdown-resistant :-) part).
Comment 4 Maciej Pilichowski 2006-11-30 22:50:55 UTC
Reopening since I just tested Kubuntu 6.10 and the same behaviour here -- KDE can handle single session and refuse to shutdown but with several sessions it just folds -- no questions asked.
Comment 5 Bram Schoenmakers 2007-05-24 22:51:01 UTC
And have you tried other environments than KDE? Gnome maybe?
Comment 6 Maciej Pilichowski 2007-05-25 09:05:58 UTC
I have tried Window, unfortunately I deleted it some time ago, but if I remember correctly it warns if the other users are logged in.
Comment 7 Maciej Pilichowski 2007-05-25 12:22:48 UTC
Bram, I've just asked friends of mine who work on Macs about the shutdown behavior. They said (but I didn't see it) that Mac warns user if there are other opened sessions.
Comment 8 Bram Schoenmakers 2007-05-25 16:19:02 UTC
Actually I meant desktop environments on Linux and not another OS.
Comment 9 Maciej Pilichowski 2007-05-25 19:14:00 UTC
I have no experience with non-KDE WM/DM -- but where are you going?
Comment 10 Bram Schoenmakers 2007-07-03 00:08:41 UTC
Closing, not a KDE problem.
Comment 11 Maciej Pilichowski 2007-07-03 08:25:02 UTC
Bram, are you kidding or what -- sessions were opened in KDE, and now you are saying, that KDE-sessions are not a KDE problem?

As I said before -- KDE can (!) gracefully intercept the shutdown process, so why it cannot do it when two users are logged in?
Comment 12 Bram Schoenmakers 2007-07-03 22:17:53 UTC
I closed it because you failed to prove this is an exclusive KDE problem, since you didn't check GNOME, XFCE or whatever other environment.

Now I changed this into a wish item and with sanitized the summary a bit.

This is absurd. When filling report for KMail (for example) I don't have to check if the Thunderbid does not crash in the same situation.

The same goes for KDE. It works fine with one session (check if the app is running) but does not when > 1 sessions are opened.

it's good you reported it, but we're still not looking at fixing it. I'll gladly review a patch though, in case someone else wants to fix it.
