Description Franz Häuslschmid 2006-11-21 10:39:29 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

It would be nice to have a different font family and font size for different sessions. As an example, I use Pine in a colored Konsole terminal and would like to have a different font for improved readability. I noticed that there is a font property in the session tab of the "Configure Konsole ..." (Konsole einrichten ... in my system's locale) -- it just happens to be deactivated.

Good suggestion. Konsole's settings handling can be confusing for end-users and developers at the moment. I am hoping to create a better replacement in the future.
Comment 2 Franz Häuslschmid 2006-11-21 14:08:07 UTC
In my situation, I would also be happy, if I could specify the font Konsole uses by setting the command line that invokes Konsole appropriately. That is something like

konsole --font "Misc Console" -e pine

I know, that `--fn|--font' is a Qt option that is not available to Konsole. Is there another trick, that I could use?

I am not so sure about that.

The problem with allowing these things to be specified on the command-line is that you then have configuration options coming from many different places, and the user may have different expectations of which settings take priority than I do.

Plus there may be possibility for misunderstanding. Does "--font" refer to the font used by the menus and dialogs in Konsole or the terminal font? (I know you mean the latter, but I hope you see my point).

Confirmed. It should be possible to specify fonts on a per-session basis.

Fixed in KDE 4. Everything is customisable on a per-profile basis.
