Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.4) Installed from: FreeBSD Ports Compiler: Default FreeBSD GCC OS: FreeBSD When you type in Arabic word "السﻻم" It makes spaces between symbol ﻻ which is in same place of Char "B" in the keyboard and the next chartcter, so the issue is with the Arabic only it doesn't attach it to next char but makes space between them.
The word you typed in the bugreport is also shown incorrectly. And I checked in various applications. So, I assume that the actual typing of the text created the wrong character which is why you see the wrong symbol. Is it possible for you to paste the word you intended to have on screen into the bugreport?

That example shows its not a shaper problem, but an input method problem (typing the key inputs a single ligature instead of two characters). Which means its probably not KOffice specific but its specific to the input method you are using. (setxkbmap/X11)

Just adding some more comments here in case the X guys are peeking in don't have to do the same mental steps (and I don't have a FD.o bugzilla account): Above there are three characters in use. Arabic has ligatures possible between the three of them, but there's also a special unicode character for the ligature between the first two (as it is apparently the only non-optional ligature in Arabic). The correct ligatures are used if the characters are entered separately and everything is left up to the shaper. However, things get tricky if the key is used for the (in theory) isolated glyph and characters immediately follow. The reporter is suggesting that when that character is used and followed by additional characters that the isolated form of the glyph not be used, which seems sane. Whether that's handled by the shaper or the input code is left as an exercise to the reader. :-)
It's not an issue in m$ windows since version 3.1 :) You can attach the symbol in the attached picture to chars before it when it's valid to attach it to it, in xorg it makes it impossible to attach it to the char before it. Thank you, -Abdullah
The issue is in the layout, Xkb doesn't support "multiple keysyms per keypress" whch means one key can't produce multiple characters, the writer of the Arabic layout for xkb tried to get around this by using the unicode ligature directly which is wrong and shouldn't happened. In the last xkeyboard-config released all lam-alef keyes were removed untill the xkb bug is fixed.
