Description Sune Vuorela 2006-11-10 01:24:23 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Some debian users reports that ark make their system hang in pt_BR language:

(from http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=383951)

Occasionally when right clicking a compressed file kde crashes. The
kde desktop crashes, workspace switching works however all
applications do not work. The only way to kill Kde is to restart x
via ctrl+alt+backspace.

Well, it can looks insame but I identified a problem when using Ark in
pt_BR language. When the KDE environment is running on this _specific_
language and I try to right click a file or a directory to compress it
the dialog of compressing progress freeze.

Hi!

On closer inspection, the debian users was using kde 3.5.4 - and they report that this bug has gone away with kde 3.5.5 - closing this bug.

the user just reproduced it again in pt_BR locale and in english as well
It seems that it only happens when you right click to compress something and you don't have ark open already. If ark is open, it works.

Also - if the user opens konqueror and go to /home/$USER, then compress works.
If the same user goes to system:/home - it freezes - it could be related to the system kioslave and/or the ark support for the system kioslave.
Other components uses the system kioslave nicely

Can you please tell if the bug is still valid?

It appears to have been fixed, so I'm marking it as WORKSFORME. If you manage to make it happen, please reopen.
