Description Mohd Asif Ali Rizwaan 2006-11-08 22:21:41 UTC
Version: 0.5.5 (using KDE 3.5.5, Frugalware Linux)
Compiler:          Target: i686-pc-linux-gnu
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.18-fw2

Please Allow to override "embedded" and "non-available" fonts for better accessibility. Some fonts look horrible and unreadable. It's right that one can 'ADD' font substitution in .fonts.conf but an easier GUI setting in KPDF or oKular would really help the newbies, and average KDE user. Thanks.

Here's the example which i added to Change the non-existing Baskerville font to "Times New Roman" which looks a lot better in KPDF.

... (after </match>) in ~/.fonts.conf
--------------------------
<alias>
<family>Baskerville</family>
<accept><family>Times New Roman</family></accept>
</alias>
</fontconfig>
--------------------------

Please consider adding 'custom overriding of fonts' in kpdf and okular for better accessibility. Thanks a millions for KDE and kpdf!

Sorry, i can see the problem, but it's not kpdf nor okular problem configuring font substitutions.

I can see that as a wish feature for kcontrol fonts module.

Please open a wish against the kcontrol product, kcmfonts component.

This bug is _not_ invalid as per the arguments given in comment #2. This is a serious accessibility issue, and as we are dealing with text the fix should be trivial. The request is not to have global font replacement, but rather, to display PDF files with a font other than that which the PDF author has embedded. I am reopening the bug.

"the fix should be trivial"
You made my day

Patches welcome :-)

(Simplifying the summary.)
Comment 7 Dotan Cohen 2009-06-02 13:21:20 UTC
It appears that the Windows version of Adobe Reader has a font replacement option, called 'local fonts'. So there is precedent for this feature.
Comment 8 Albert Astals Cid 2009-06-02 13:57:01 UTC
Dothan, this is the second time you do it and i'm going to ask you to stop doing it.

DO NOT CONFIRM bugs on products you don't own.

And KPDF is dead, no development is happening on it.
Comment 9 Dotan Cohen 2009-06-05 13:13:35 UTC
I apologize, Albert, I do not remember the first time.

I have moved the product to Okular, as KPDF is no longer maintained. Thanks.

That one is already bug #139562. Please double check before moving.
Comment 11 Dotan Cohen 2009-06-05 14:44:24 UTC
Sorry Pino, I am on a bad roll today. I had not checked as it seems reasonable that would be a dupe of this bug.
Comment 12 Albert Astals Cid 2009-08-26 23:53:55 UTC
Closing the bug as kpdf is not under development and okular already has the same wish asked for in #139562
Comment 13 Dotan Cohen 2009-08-27 12:53:30 UTC
Thanks, Albert, I'm marking as a dupe in order to find this one for the comments.
