Description Bodo Graumann 2006-10-30 09:11:59 UTC
Version: 2.7.5 (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc 4.1.1
OS: Linux

this bug can also be found here:
http://bugs.beryl-project.org/ticket/206

it occurs with the latest nvidia-drivers (1.0.9626)
on Xorg 7.1 with beryl 0.1.1-r1

sometimes X crashes when hiding the yakuake window
(with the shortcut)
it happens very often when running mplayer at the same time
Comment 1 Eike Hein 2006-10-30 11:58:01 UTC
Sounds like a driver or even X bug - Yakuake is not exactly responsible for preventing those components from crashing, even if it would misbehave (which it doesn't, although its behavior is sufficiently different from 'normal' applications to potentially uncover bugs that otherwise don't manifest themselves). Please note that you're using beta drivers, too. And without additional information - like a backtrace of the X server or other debug information - there's nothing I can do in any event.

I'm closing this as INVALID,

Please open again:
Output of xorg.log:

(EE) Error loading keymap /usr/share/X11/xkb/compiled/server-0.xkm
(II) 3rd Button detected: disabling emulate3Button

Backtrace:
0: /usr/bin/X(xf86SigHandler+0x85) [0x80d0bc5]

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting

Please tell my, what else do you need.

Thank you very much

Why is this Invalid, a very large number of people are experiencing this same bug. However the platform is not always the same (I'm a kubuntu user who has the same problem).

Kubuntu guys are having this same issue it seems. Eike, is it possible to confirm this as a Yakuake bug, or is it a definite X bug? Thanks!
Comment 5 Eike Hein 2007-08-03 21:00:03 UTC
No, it's not possible for me to confirm this as a Yakuake bug, sorry. I can't claim it as an X bug either, however.

Generally speaking, Yakuake does something rather unusual, namely change its window mask many times in rapid succession. This should technically be legitimate, but unusual things tend to uncover bugs. E.g. Yakuake has already uncovered a kwin crash bug (which was fixed in 3.5.7), too.

I'm not certain if this is limited to beryl/compiz, since I rarely run outside of that environment these days, but I am running KDE 3.5.7 with Xorg version X Window System Version 7.2.0 on Gentoo.

graphics card is: Intel GMA X3100 GM965

>yakuake -v ~
Qt: 3.3.8
KDE: 3.5.7
Yakuake: 2.7.5

let me know if this if you need anything else to make debugging this any easier.
