Description Mats Ahlgren 2006-10-21 09:50:34 UTC
Version: 1.9.1 (using KDE 3.5.2, Kubuntu Package 4:3.5.2-0ubuntu18.1 dapper)
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.15-26-686

I will get new mail from my IMAP account, and either KMail will have its status bar freeze at 100%, or will say "Checked new mail. No new mail messages." (which is a lie, because if I restart KMail I'll have new mail messages).

This seems to happen randomly and after my computer goes into standby.

Please fix this; this makes KMail unusable for me. It's also poor form to have silent-failure modes in software. (e.g. You're waiting on an email for your boss, and keep on clicking "Get New Messages", and KMail keeps on saying "No new messages" even though you really do have messages -- that's not a good thing)

please try to update your kde release or update kmail

I have the exact same problem with my kmail in 3.5.6

It will tell me there are no new messages when there infact are (operamail catches them on the same account)

It too seems to happen to me after suspending.

I have to restart kmail to receive my emails which pretty much makes kmail unusable.

Using disconnected imap avoids this bug.
I right now have two accounts open, one online and one disconnected imap, i can check them both at the same time and the online one comes home empty handed while the disconnected one retrieves new emails.

It seems to happen after imap once has failed to connect to the server (restarting network, moving in and out of wifi-areas and so on)

Would be possible to change the summary to less poetic -- better chance to spot a duplicate.

This is a bit different case, so for the record:

When you fetch mail and there is an error KMail still shows "OK" info in the status bar -- job completed, no new messages.

This is not true -- KMail cannot know if there are or there are not new messages. And job is not completed.

OK, done.
Comment 8 Björn Ruberg 2010-01-03 11:22:00 UTC
Does this problem still occur with recent kmail versions?
Comment 9 Mats Ahlgren 2010-01-03 17:29:01 UTC
I have not used kmail for years, unfortunately.

Since I am the only reporter and there are no other voters, I guess this bug could be closed after giving the CC'ed people and any others a few days/weeks to interject? [dated: Jan 03, 2010]

Yes, it's still occurs. I moved to KMail recently and almost never reboot my PC, and I felt myself strange when no new messages comes for 3-4 days. I've restarted kmail and got all my new messages.
Once there was an error message that the kwallet is not available.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
