Description kadlecf 2006-10-20 08:58:50 UTC
Version: 2.4.1 (using KDE 3.4.2 Level "b" , SUSE 10.0)
Compiler: Target: i586-suse-linux
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.13-15.12-default

Kate allows to choose the charset for files being opened by using the drop-down list in the Open File dialog. This works fine when the file is opened for the first time. However, when I open a file with a mistaken charset, then close the file and attempt to re-open it with the correct one, Kate seems to remember the previous choice and will open it again with the same charset. The only way is to rename the file and open under the new name.

Bug does not appear any more in kate 2.5.5.
Comment 2 Victor Porton 2007-12-29 21:08:38 UTC
The bug is present in Kate 3.5.8.

I open a UTF-8 file specifying "utf8" charset but it is opened as if I could specify "koi8-r" charset. It seems that I have opened it with koi8-r in the past and now the wrong encoding persists.

Bug is still present in Kate 2.5.7 under Opensuse 10.3 with KDE 3.5.7.
