Description S. Burmeister 2006-10-14 15:39:51 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

Currently it is only possible to drag&drop the little account-icons in order to add a contact to a meta-contact.

Why not allow the same when dragging the buddy-icon which seems to be the first thing a user tries to drag. At least if there is only one account in a contact that should not be a problem.

I agree. I also tried to move a contact by dragging the contact name instead of the account icon. As it has not worked I wanted to write a feature request on bugs.kde.org. There I found an issue telling me, that I need to drag the small account icon.

If an contact has one on account icon it would be very useful if you would be able to drag also the contact name to another contact to merge both. In case of more than one account icons a message box could appear to tell the user that he has to drag the particular account icon instead of the nickname OR let the user choose the metacontact(s) to move to the new contact.

As I have read in the comments of other issues, I'm not the only one who thought it would be impossible to move contacts by drag&drop:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78012#c4
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78012#c14
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84638#c4

Because people don't know this workaround, lots of new bug reports are written with an appeal to implement similar methods for merging 2 contacts. But IMO these requests are not obsolete if everybody knows how the drag&drop merging works, because that's fast enough.
