Description jg 2006-10-07 15:29:42 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.4)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

Presently *.ram (and *.RAM) files are incorectly in the same mimetype/filetype as RealAudio (audio/vnd.rn-realaudio).

RAM files should be in a separate mimetype. Also in that separate mimetype there should be the option of opening in a text editor, for example Kwrite or Kate as RAM files are a text file format.

There are pages on line about RAM being a text metafile format:

http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=RAM

Kind regards
Jon

We use shared-mime-info (in kde4), see http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications/AddingMIMETutor for mimetype-related requests.

KDE 3.5 is frozen for such changes, and KDE 4 uses the shared-mime-info database, and this change is already done there (with shared-mime-info >= 0.20 and above).
